You can plan for just about everything when you’re moving house, everything except the weather.
When it comes down to moving day if you have the truck booked, your lease is up or settlement has gone through you have to move no matter what the weather is doing.
At First Choice Removals a little rain doesn’t stop us, we’ll still turn up at your door ready to go.
If the weather does take a turn for the worst on moving day these are some tips to protect your things and make everything run smoothly rather than slippery.
Tips for moving house in the rain
Old towels – If there has been rain forecast in the lead up to moving day make sure you have a box set aside with old towels and sheets ready. Lay these down through the entrance way as your moving everything out of the old place and at the new one. It means we won’t be trudging water and dirt through your nice, clean new home. You’ll also cut down on how much cleaning needs to be done at the old place.
Plastic – Good, solid packing boxes, like the ones you can order from us, will withstand light rain in the walk to and from the removal truck. But if it looks like it will be raining heavily or there is a long trip between the house and the truck you will need to protect your things with plastic.
There are two relatively easy ways to do this; either get a few packets of large garbage bags you can put your boxes in, or wrap them up with cling wrap (you’ll need more than a few roles of cling wrap).
When it comes to your furniture, we’ll cover at risk items with our padding blankets as we move them from the house to the truck.
Check electrical items – Pay particular attention to boxes with items like kitchen appliances, computers, home entertainment, power cords etc. Ensure the boxes are covered and that you check the items before plugging them in at the new home.
Safety – Don’t forget about protecting yourself. Make sure your shoes are enclosed and don’t get particularly slippery in the wet. It’s harder to keep your balance on slippery floors and you don’t want to drop your breakables or hurt yourself on moving day.
